KAC plans another Khalsa March on Feb 10 to expose "misdeeds" of dera chief

14 January 2008
MUKATSAR: Upping its ante against activities of the Sirsa Dera chief Gurmit Ram Rahim for his blasphemous acts, the Khalsa Action Committee today resolved to take out another 'Khalsa March' in the periphery of Salabatpura on Feb 10.
The decision was taken in the form of a resolution adopted at a conference jointly held by Akali Dal (Presidium), Akali Dal (1920) and Dal Khalsa under the aegis of Khalsa Action Committee to mark the historic occasion of Maghi on Sunday. Accusing Sirsa Dera head for undermining Sikh beliefs and principles, the statement released by KAC spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh further states, the avowed aim of this Sirsa Dera was to underscore and attack the concept of Shabad Guru –a fundamental tenet of the Sikh religion.

Another resolution described the Punjab government as inefficient and weak for surrendering the state's interest before the Haryana vis-à-vis proposed Mohali airport project. " Chandigarh belongs to Punjab. The claim of Haryana on Punjab's capital, river waters, High Court and Punjabi speaking areas was illegal, unjust and against the spirit of the Constitution. Sikhs have been struggling against this injustice for long and will continue to do so till their last breath", said the resolution. It asked the Punjab government to take principled stand on the issue instead of playing 'compromised' politics and bowing before the Haryana.

In another resolution the KAC decided to meet French president during his proposed visit to Delhi to apprise him of the Sikh viewpoint on turban issue.

While addressing the spirited gathering, the convenor of the KAC Bhai Mohkam Singh said the continuing logistic support and patronisation of the Dera and its pseudo-saint by the Congress Party has caused pain and anguish to the devout in Panjab. Reiterating their commitment to take the issue to its logical conclusion, he explained that the aim of the March was not only to "expose the evil and nefarious designs" of the pseudo-saint but also to awaken the masses. To drive his point home, he said Salabatpura was a place where this dramabaz baba attempted to equate himself with the Tenth Guru. "This pseudo saint has hurt the pride and psyche of the Sikh Nation and Sikhs want to see him behind the bars", thundered the convenor of the conglomerate.

Bhai Daljit Singh co-convenor of the KAC said the history of Punjab is replete with many instances of the state meddling in the religious affairs of the minority peoples and flagrantly supporting the majority community. He further said the Constitution of the Indian State professes to be secular, but in practice all federating units and the Union government misuse discretionary funds to foist likes of Nirankaris, Diyva Jyoti Jagran Sansthan, Sirsa Dera to weaken the ethos of religions of minority peoples.

Blaming the Congress for playing with fire and bowing the seeds of disharmony in the state, Dal Khalsa president Satnam singh Paonta Sahib said the Congress party in Haryana and Panjab has been fuelling this Dera, not only to achieve its premeditated aim of undermining the Sikh religion, but also to reap electoral benefits as was done in the last assembly elections in Panjab and Haryana.

Former Akal Takht jathedar Bhai Jasbir Singh reminded the audience that this so-called Baba has cases of rape and murder against him. The courts may have granted bail to him but the manner in which logistic support in the form of Z-plus security; bullet proof vehicles and 24-hour armed guards are provided to him, smacks of the state protecting its honoured guest. Coming down heavily on Punjab chief minister for being hand-in-glove with Congress president and opposition leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, he said both are two sides of the same coin.

Others who spoke on the occasion were Dal Khalsa leader Harcharnjit Singh Dhami, SSF president Paramjit Singh Gazi, Advocate D S Gill, Gurdeep Singh Bathinda, Darshan Singh Mand (all members of the KAC).
