P&H High Court Decision on Status of Sikhs is a Part of Anti-Minority Policy of India, Says SSF
Patiala (December 18, 2007)
The decision of Punjab & Haryana High Court holding that Sikh Education institutions are not eligible to get benefits of Education institutions run by Minority is a part of anti-minorities policy of India, claimed Sikh Students Federation. The Sikh Students body said in a press release that this is a political decision but came from judicial organ because it is considered more safe for Indian majority.
SSF President, S. Parmjeet Singh Gazi and General Secretary S. Hardev Singh Karnal said that interest of various minorities are not safe in India. Indian Constitution do not recognize the fact of distinct and separate identity of Sikhs and treat them as a minority. Still, Sikhs were getting some benefits as they were considered a minority community, but now even these are withdrawn.
SSF claimed that these steps are taken to hamper the progress of Sikh Nation. It claimed that most of the Sikh Population in Punjab lives in villages and Education system of Villages of Punjab is in such a ruin position that nothing good can be expected. No Government has ever bothered about it as the matter is related to development of Sikhs. In this position the only hope for educational development of Sikhs was some education institutions run by Sikh Organizations. Some quota was fixed for Sikh Students in these institutions. But this last hope is also destroyed by the recent decision of the Punjab and Haryana High court. SSF is considering the matter to the extent of gravity of its' seriousness and some effective action plan shall be chalked out, said Hardev Singh.
