Shaheedi Jor Mela concludes, 10 lakh devotees pay their obeisance

The 303rd three day annual Shaheedi Jor Mela, in memory of Guru Gobind Singh's two younger sons who were bricked alive, concluded here Wednesday with the bhog ceremony of Guru Granth Sahib at Gurdwara Jyoti Swarup Sahib and a religious procession.

To mark the concluding ceremony Giani Tarlochan Singh Jathedar Takht Shri Keshgarh Sahib performed " Ardas" at Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib and then a religious procession commenced from historic Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib around 9.00 AM with ardas. The procession was led by Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture placed in a "Palki Sahib" (palanquin).

Braving thick fog, cold wave and uncertain weather, lakhs of Sikhs drawn from different parts of India and abroad participated in religious procession under the aegis of the SGPC.

The nagar kirtan procession was led by 'Panj Piaras' (five beloved). Akal Takht Jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti, Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib Jathedar Giani Tarlochan Singh,

arbar Sahib Head priest Giani Gurbachan Singh , Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Jathedar Giani Balwant Singh Nandgarh , Takht Sri Patna Sahib Jathedar Giani Iqbal Singh, SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar and a galaxy of Sikh saints and leaders accompanied the palanquin.

The entire route was decorated with Kesri flags, banners etc. flower petals were showered . Different gatka parties were the main attraction of the procession, where distinctive skills of martial arts were also exhibited. Kirtani jathas from different town sang hymns of gurbani. Children clad in traditional Khalsai dress and nihangs were also the center of attraction.

The nihangs displayed their skill of martial arts (gatka). Bagpipers and brass bands were playing melodious tunes and later an aero plane showered flowers on the congregation. The procession completed its one and a half km distance around 1 PM and terminated at Gurdwara Jyoti Swarup, where the sons of Guru Gobind Singh were cremated by Diwan Todar Mal. A siren was sounded today around in the memory of younger Sahibzadas at the time of concluding ardas. With the offering of 'Ardas' (Prayer) by Giani Tarlochan Singh Jathedar Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, who took the " Mukh Wak" , the nagar kirtan was completed and the annual 'Jor Mela' in this historic town came to an end.

Addressing the congregation at Gurdwara Jyoti Swaroop the SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar expressed his gratitude to all the Sikhs living in India and abroad, Sikh institutions and organizations for their participation and cooperation in observance of tercentenary of martyrdom of four Sahibzadas and mother of Guru Gobind Singh at Chamkaur Sahib and Fatehgarh Sahib. The Akal Takhat jathedar Gaini Joginder Singh Vedanti called upon the Sikhs to follow the teachings of Gurus and acquaint the new generation with there glorious heritage.

The students of Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh Sahib also succeeded in spreading the message of Akal Takhat regarding Female Feticide, the banners and logos attracted the attention of devotees .

Fatehgarh Sahib DC Alak Nanda Dayal and SSP Nilabh Kishore expressed satisfaction over the peaceful completion of the Mela as no untoward incident was reported during the Mela.
